Sound familiar?

“I set it to 72 and it only gets to 68.”

That’s how one Colorado homeowner put it to us, and we hear a version of it every week. The thermostat says one thing. The upstairs says another. The system runs all day and never quite catches up, and it’s old enough that the next repair bill is right around the corner.

Upstairs is an oven, downstairs is a fridge

Rooms far from the furnace or air handler get whatever’s left. Bigger equipment doesn’t fix that. Better design does.

It runs all day and can’t keep up

Window units and space heaters propping up a tired central system is a sign, not a solution.

It’s 15+ years old and been repaired before

Most furnaces and ACs were sized by rule of thumb. The comfort problems show up as they age.

None of this is your thermostat’s fault. It’s a system that was never designed for your house.

The Truth About

Cold-Climate Heat Pumps

Contrary to the heat pumps of the past, cold-climate heat pumps are designed to operate in cold climates like Colorado. The units we install keep heating efficiently in temps as low as -13°F.

  • Real heat in a Colorado winter. At 5°F, a cold-climate unit is still putting out at least 70% of its full heating power. Most homes don’t need backup heat; if yours does, your design will say so.

  • Even temperatures, room by room. Sized with a certified load calculation for your rooms, not a one-size swap. That’s the difference between being “comfortable in every room”, versus avoiding the cold spaces.

  • Replaced on your timeline. Don't get stuck without heat on a cold winter night because your furnace 'conveniently' decided to break. Plan your upgrade around your schedule.

Types of Heat Pumps We Install

All heat pumps move heat, but the right setup depends on your home, your ductwork, and how you heat today.

Ducted Heat Pump

Best for homes with existing ductwork from a furnace + A/C setup. A direct swap that uses what you already have.

For homes without ductwork, or for adding heating + cooling to a single room or zone. Per-room temperature control.

From homeowners like you

Rooms that finally hold their temperature.

“I was looking to add a ducted mini split in the attic to improve heat and air conditioning to our second floor rooms. After discussing our needs and concerns for our 26 year old main HVAC, Conner designed a Mitsubishi heat pump system… They made the process as seamless as possible and communicated regularly. We are very happy with our new systems!”
“The app for design and specifications was cool and easy. The team was fast and efficient. The end product will be a great improvement to our 50 year old log house. It will be much more comfortable and efficient to heat and cool. The installation team was expert, experienced, efficient, on time, clean, flexible and friendly to work with.”
“We used Zero Homes in Colorado for a cold climate heat pump system (replacing our furnace and air conditioning)… They were responsive and diligent and they helped me with my questions, and I had quite a few! Our install was in Dec 2025 and so far we’ve been pleased with the heating/warming capacity. I’m confident that the cooling will function equally as well.”
“The initial contact designed exactly the system I needed. The system included a heat pump and gas backup for the coldest winter days… The front office team not only maximized my rebates, but followed up 5 months later to be sure they went through. Make sure you talk with Zero if you need a heat pump.”
